The Fattest Cuts of Beef

Tonight, I’m having steak for dinner thanks to my stepdad who is treating us to dinner at one of his favorite steakhouses. This got me wondering what cuts of beef are the highest in calories and highest in fat. I also remembered seeing an article in the October issue of Muscle and Fitness magazine that talked about this very topic. I’ll highlight the main points below.Cuts of beef in order of fat content from low to high:

Top Sirloin - (8 oz. raw) 306 calories, 50 grams protein, 11 grams fat

Flank - (8 oz. raw) 352 calories, 24 grams protein, 16 grams fat

Rib-Eye - (8 oz. raw) 592 calories, 40 grams protein, 48 grams fat

T-Bone - (8 oz. raw) 496 calories, 40 grams protein, 35 grams fat

Filet Mignon - (8 oz. raw) 592 calories, 40 grams protein, 48 grams fat

I’m so sad that my favorite cut (filet mignon) has the highest fat content. Good thing I don’t eat it all the time. Knowing how much protein are in these particular cuts is good to know if you try to get most of your protein intake from Read the rest on Trying Fitness

Exercise tip # 4 Legs, Legs, Legs! Part 1 Squats

Well as I’ve said before and will again their is no such thing as spot reduction. In order to reduce fat in an area we have to reduce our overall body fat. It does however tend to make us feel good if we have problems with back fat for example to do back exercises. And by all means if something makes you Read the rest on Fit Chic’s Blogspot

STUDY: Overweight kids show heart risks as teens

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Overweight children may show a collection of risk factors for heart disease by the time they are teenagers, a new study shows.

Researchers found that overweight and obese 8-year-olds were seven-times more likely than their thinner peers to have multiple heart disease risk factors at the age of 15. These risks included high blood pressure, unhealthy cholesterol levels and elevations in blood sugar and insulin, a blood-sugar-regulating hormone.

Along with obesity, all of these problems are components of metabolic syndrome, which in turn raises the long-term risk of type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

The findings, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, add to evidence of the serious health consequences of childhood obesity. Read the rest here.
